Diego Puls (Buenos Aires, 1956) graduated in Translation Studies from Amsterdam University (UvA) in 1985. He teached Spanish translation at Groningen University (RUG) from 1986 to 1988. Worked as a translator at the Spanish language division of the European Parliament in Luxemburg (1989-1995) and at the Council of the European Union in Brussels (1995-2012). Participated in several Dutch-Spanish lexicography projects, e.g. the Spanish Van Dale, where he acted as a translation supervisor and a member of the board of editors-in-chief. Apart from several non fiction (e.g. Luuk van Middelaar's A passage to Europe, Galaxia Gutenberg, 2013 – together with Mariona Vilalta), he translated Anne Frank's Diary from Dutch into Spanish (Diario; Plaza & Janés, 1993), as well as Hella Haasse's De heren van de thee (Los señores del té; Península, 1999 – together with Carmen Bartolomé), Kader Abdolah's Spijkerschrift (El reflejo de las palabras; Salamandra, 2006), Guus Kuijer's Het boek van alle dingen and Florian Knol (El libro de todas las cosas and Florián; Castillo, 2006 and 2007), Jan Wolkers' Turks fruit (Delicias turcas; Libros del Zorzal, 2009), Arthur van Schendel's Het fregatschip Johanna Maria (La fragata Johanna Maria; Ediciones del Ermitaño, 2011 – together with Rafael Lechner), Marcellus Emants' Een nagelaten bekentenis (Una confesión póstuma; Fiordo, 2013), and Rudy Kousbroek´s Opgespoorde wonderen (Los secretos del pasado; Adriana Hidalgo, 2013 – together with María Cristina Galibert). Was entrusted with translating Dutch, Flemish and Frisian poetry by Stichting Ons Erfdeel (Poesía contemporánea en lengua neerlandesa, 1995), Nederlands Literair Productie- en Vertalingenfonds (now Nederlands Letterenfonds), Vlaams Fonds voor de Letteren, Poetry International, Het beschrijf and Fundación Carlos de Amberes. Has been a regular moderator of literary translation workshops NL-ES since 1999.
